Golden Toad
About The Amphibian
Toad was first conceived of as a throwaway sketch on a random Friday circa 2014. Originally there were no plans to develop Toad beyond that point, but when Derik was looking for a new project to keep his sequential skills sharp, the character resurfaced. The concept for the character went through many revisions (even including a comedic approach) during the early stages of production. Eventually Toad morphed into his current form, and the webcomic was born. Toad's orange appearance was inspired by the golden toad of northern Costa Rica, which were first discovered in 1964 by Jay Savage. Sadly, Toad's forefathers are believed to have gone extinct as the last known citing of a male golden toad was on May 15th 1989. It is hypothosized that either change in climate or fungus played a part in their exctinction.
